Laura Genutis
Laura Lynne Genutis, age 42, of Wexford, Pennsylvania peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 3,
2025 at her home.
Laura was born on September 17, 1982 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Laura attended Plum High School
where she ran cross country, played clarinet in the school band, and was a member of the National
Honor Society. Laura attended The Pennsylvania State University and graduated in 2005 with a
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Laura applied her degree at Westinghouse Electric Company where she had ~20 years of service. Laura
held several leadership positions within the nuclear industry through the Pressurized Water Reactor
Owners Group (PWROG) highlighted by her efforts as International Program Director to drive
implementable solutions to global industry challenges. Laura's drive and dedication for her
profession coupled with her love of nature, birding, photography, trains, travel, and local cousine
took Laura all over the world. Laura spent time traveling or living in 50+ countries and 49/50
states pursuing her passions. The meticulous planning and execution of Laura's adventures was in
itself it's own hobby of flight tracking, reservation booking, credit card churning, and sometimes
even detailed CalTopo maps of the itinerary that Laura took great pride in having mastered.
In all of her travels, Laura's favorite destinations were her family estate in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania
near the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail; spending time at her cabin in Dunmore, West Virginia
near the Greenbrier River Trail (GRT) and hiking in Seneca and Monongahela Forests; hiking the
Tetons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and vacationing in Bali, Indonesia where she married her husband,
Kyle Shearer, in Jan 2018. Laura was an active member of the Audubon Society, Rails to Trails, West
Virginia Waterfall Wanderer, and Rush to Crush Cancer organizations.
Laura is survived by her husband, Kyle Shearer; dog, Margot; mother, Patricia Genutis (Brayton); and
father, Arthur Genutis, Junior.
